City and student life

Living and studying here

Mostar has about 105,000 inhabitants and is the capital of Herzegovina. The Old Bridge and the old bazaar draw visitors, but for students the city is mostly about cafés, the Neretva river and easy day trips. Međugorje, the second location of the University of Herzegovina, is a small and quiet town about 30 minutes from Mostar, known for its pilgrimage church.

The Mostar location is on Kneza M. Viševića Humskog. Local buses run across the city, and regular buses link Mostar and Međugorje. Mostar has its own airport, Sarajevo airport is about 2 hours by car, and the Adriatic coast is about an hour away.

Summers are long and hot, winters mild. Prices are moderate: a coffee costs around €1.50 and a simple lunch about €6. Both Mostar and Međugorje are safe places to live, and international students quickly find their way around.

Our advice for accommodation: decide early whether most of your classes will be in Mostar or Međugorje and look for a room there. Sign a written contract for the full academic year, because you need it for the residence permit. We help you with both.

Mostar is home to other universities too, for example the University of Mostar. You can compare all universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina on our overview page.
