About the university
Sinergija University is a private university in Bijeljina, the main town of the Semberija plain in the north-east of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was founded in 2005 and has its campus on Raje Baničića street, a short walk from the town centre. If you want to study in Bosnia at a smaller institution where lecturers know your name, Sinergija is one of the universities in Bosnia worth a closer look.
The university has four faculties: Business Economics, Computing and Informatics, Law, and Philology. That covers four popular routes: study business in Bosnia, study IT in Bosnia, study law in Bosnia, or train as an English language specialist. Bachelor programmes carry 240 ECTS, and every faculty also runs a master programme.
Teaching at Sinergija University is in Serbian. For international students that means you need a working knowledge of the language before lectures start. Many of our students come from neighbouring countries and already speak it; if you do not, we organise a preparatory language course in Bijeljina so you can follow lectures with confidence.
Tuition fees are available on request, and living costs in Bijeljina are among the lowest you will find in the region. We help international students with the whole path: recognition of documents, application, student visa, residence permit and accommodation. City and student life
Bijeljina sits on the flat, fertile Semberija plain in the north-east of Bosnia and Herzegovina, close to the Drina river and the border with Serbia. About 100,000 people live in the town and the surrounding villages. It is a calm, practical place with a large pedestrian centre, cafés around the main square and a market where fruit and vegetables come straight from local farms.
The Sinergija University campus is on Raje Baničića street, within walking distance of the centre. Because Bijeljina is flat, many students get around on foot or by bicycle. Buses connect the town with Tuzla, Brčko and Banja Luka, and Belgrade is about two hours away, which makes weekend trips easy. Tuzla International Airport is roughly an hour and a half by road.
Summers in Bijeljina are hot and long, winters are cold with occasional snow. Prices are low: a coffee costs around €1, and a lunch menu in a local restaurant rarely costs more than €5 to €7. Students tell us they feel safe walking around in the evening, and the town has the relaxed pace of a regional centre rather than a big city.
For nature, the Drina river and the Ethno village Stanišići are close by, and the hills of Majevica are within easy reach. Bijeljina is also home to University of Bijeljina and Slobomir P University, so there is a real student population in town.
Our advice for accommodation: start with a room in a shared flat close to campus for the first semester, then decide whether you want your own studio. We arrange viewings, check rental contracts and make sure your address works for the residence permit.
